Slow down and think
As we’re trying to provide excellent care for kids and address their needs and really try to support families, we don’t necessarily give ourselves or anybody else in our profession permission to acknowledge that that exposure does have an impact. People need to make space for that. When we’re talking about self-care that means also being able to acknowledge and to reflect on just how hard it is to be so close to seeing families and children really suffer. It really does make you less effective if you don’t slow down occasionally and think about what’s going on, what you’re seeing, and what that does to change you over time.

Leave it at work
You do need to find a way to be able to balance and leave it at work. And it’s so hard, no matter how much you try.
