I always tell my kids, even my nieces and nephews: when they go out, if they have a problem, if they don’t feel comfortable, if something goes up, to call me. I don’t care what time it is, call me, and I will go pick you up. I think that’s one of the ways you can prevent violence.
Keep them in activities
Some people tell me I keep my kids in too many activities. As long as I know where they are, I’ll go broke keeping them in any activities they want to do. You can do a sport, you can go to some kind of program, but running the streets, it’s out of the question.
You want to keep them safe in every way
It’s hard because you want your kids to be safe, and you don’t want them to be traumatized by anything. You want to keep them as safe as possible in every way, but in my situation, I can’t go to another town. I can’t just get up and take them somewhere else.
