Leslie B. Smoot, MD, Staff Cardiologist at Children's Hospital Boston responded to the following question:

Are there things that are helpful for newly diagnosed or chronically ill children?

• You and your the child, did not do anything which caused this illness.

• This illness does not define who you are, but it may challenge you in ways you have never been challenged; it may bring out the best (and the worst) in you. It will give you insights and strengths you might never have known.
